Early May in Pudong, spring is a season known for vigorous energy and vibrant colors. Aurora Museum cooperates with Guan Xiang Art Gallery to present the “Impression of Peach Blossom–The Bronze Artwork by Zhou Chunya” solo exhibition, including Peach Blossom, Green Dog series artworks. This exhibition focuses on the unique ways of Zhou’s “depict” and “portray” techniques reflected from his artworks. Together we will explore the traditional and innovative aspects along with Zhou’s career, thus presenting the audience with artistic pleasure.

Within the aim of “preservation, transmission, contribution”, Aurora is devoted to promote and expand the researches on antiquarianism under the spirit of developing Chinese tradition culture. At the same time, the museum has been focusing on the crossover topics on “dialogues between the past and present”; the exhibition is another discussion on this topic after “The Making of A Museum”, partnership exhibition of the 10th Shanghai Biennale.

With the applying of Chinese ink and wash painting brushstrokes, Zhou’s artworks go beyond the realm of figurative art and abstract art. As a painter, Zhou is known as “the master of colors” in Chinese contemporary art history. He came back to China after he finished his study in Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, Germany in late 1980s. During the past years he has never lost his original thoughts, insisting on expressing the authentic side of his inner world. His determination of breaking single conventional patterns has made him pursuing a very unique way of artistic creation. Through the use of contrasting colors and brushstrokes, his artworks bring out a strong visual impact to audiences. This exhibition includes the two representative series: Green Dog and Peach Blossom.

Through the series of Green Dog and Peach Blossom, this exhibition shows a key turning point of Zhou’s artistic works: from the comprehension and exploration of Chinese traditional ink and wash painting, his works result in a dialectical unity of “figure depiction” and “the delight of writing”. A new balance has been reached between personal taste and artwork quality through the ways of painting and craving within his bronze sculpture.
