Hosted by the Central Academy of Fine Arts (abbr. CAFA), “To Commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army · CAFA Relay Series of Exhibitions: Long March of Art” was unveiled at the National Art Museum of China on December 23. The exhibition is themed the “Long March of Art”, which reflects the new image of the times of the major thematic creation by the Central Academy of Fine Arts, through multi-disciplinary and collective research. This exhibition is a gathering of the creative forces of all the faculties and departments, which goes deep into the historical site of the Long March, through a variety of forms including inspection, sketching and educational activities to create a series of new works around the theme of the Long March, the use of rich forms and novel appearances to reflect the artistic expression on the theme of the Long March by the contemporary CAFA’s people.

Fan Di’an, President of the Central Academy of Fine Arts: This exhibition is a new initiative of the Central Academy of Fine Arts to study and implement the important speech on literary and artistic work by the General Secretary Xi Jinping under the new situation. Like the Long March at that time, it built up batches of dazzling Red Army troops and then resulted in a national victory, our teachers and students of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, on the road of the Long March of Art, did not only harvest these works but also harvested the determination to use art to reflect cultural self-confidence, the use of art to adhere to an artistic ideal and constantly climbing the peak of art.

Wang Shaojun, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee at the Central Academy of Fine Arts: The academic research, academic discussion and academic innovation is established on the basis of deep reflection, an in-depth understanding and interpretation on this society and this period in history.

Song Xiewei, Dean of the School of Design, the Central Academy of Fine Arts: Because of its multidisciplinary existence, the exhibition should emphasize its unity. Regardless of spatial integration or the integration of color,we should take the spatial relationship into account. With the changes in space, we have to find spatial flexibility.

Li Yang, a Teacher for the Department of Mural Painting: We are going to finish the map of the roads of the Red Army’s Long March because I think the Long March of the Red Army is a magnificent feat, they walked thousands of miles over mountains and rivers, walked twenty-five thousand miles, while we hope to use a small area with apanoramic view to show the hard and glorious road.

Zhang Lujiang, Director of the Department of Fundamental Education for Plastic Arts, the Central Academy of Fine Arts: Only when people go to the scene and participate in the lifestyle can they finish a lot of homework and the mental preparation, then they need to read the historical facts and merge the twothings including the present nature and the original humanities, in this situation it is a basic context for the birth of this work.
