Poster of Jiang Cheng Post Meridiem

A+ Contemporary is pleased to announce the opening of artist Jiang Cheng’s solo exhibition “Post Meridiem” on May 13th, 2017. This is the artist’s first solo exhibition at A+ Contemporary. Jiang Cheng’s artistic practices primarily construct a space of consciousness that resides on the edge of concrete imagery and unrealistic settings, and this exhibition presents his recent works created during 2016 and 2017, among which many were based formally on a series of small works on paper titled “Imagination and Experience of Different Rules” that the artist created in the early years. Through repeatedly creating images of fictional epistemology and cosmic outlook, Jiang Cheng is able to measure the extent of his artistic self-expression, while Western traditional painting techniques precisely provide such a framework that the element of self-expression in his practices would not manifest as overly wanton and out of control. On a macro level of self-transcendence, Jiang Cheng attempts to activate the synaesthesia of memory, experience, subconsciousness, body and painting, thereby realizing an almost transcendental state of lightness and ethereality. Curated by Yang Zi, the exhibition is on view through June 25th, 2017.
