Caroline Tapernoux was born in Geneva to a family in which art was a central interest. But what truly dictated her professional choices and oriented her artistic practice were the writings of Malevich, which she devoured during her art studies in high school.

After the study in the French National School for Advanced Studies in Design, she found she failed to fulfil her creative appetite despite of her rapidly intensified professional activity. She left Paris for the countryside around Toulouse, where her life and art would connect and interlock for good. There, she would set up her first studio and hang her first mirror mobiles outdoors. Whether diffused or cut out, shaped according to its nature or its artificiality, light is a pervading element in her art. Her works subtly harmonise with movement. From mirror to glass, from glass to polyester film, and from polyester film to resin, Caroline Tapernoux concentrates, diffracts, and scatters light, and her pictures, mobiles, or installations shatter surrounding surfaces and spaces to pieces.

Her exhibition in the Jiangsu Modern Art Museum from the end of October to November 16th is designed specifically for the museum. The works presented are a continuity of her artistic research on physical and intimate perceptions as well as the relationship with space and environment. This exhibition is designed as a pathway, accompanying the visitor wherever he is led to discover different worlds. Caroline wants to take every visitor on an unique journey which is both visual and sensory.
