Poster of Below Laobeishan Hengqin Today Photos and Videos Creative Exhibition

This is Ox Warehouse's second feature exhibition themed on Hengqinin in the last 3 years. On the first there were still oyster farms and a mangrove forest with a solemn scene. This time, going up again to the Laobeishan hilltop, we could see so many changes around: Hengqin's new villages have been replaced with Chime long Ocean Kingdom, a theme park, while the still existing villages look oddly out of place, overwhelmed by the wave of the large-scale development spurred by fancy named consortiums.

The photographers try to record and present the helplessness and frustration in Hengqin, an island that still elicits curiosity among outsiders, amusedly wondering how the University of Macau Hengq in New Campus is going to stand out, how the pristine national roads - not yet open for traffic - will coexist with the humble villages, how the Old Village encircled by iron sheets looks so surreal. In any case, the photographers want mostly to draw our attention to the fact that the developers take away the land the villagers once lived on, as well as their idyllic rural lifestyle nowenvied by worn-out urban dwellers.
