The Ode to Youth – China-Korea Youth Artists Exhibition Opened in Korea

Jointly planned by Zhao Li (Professor of CAFA) and Chun Youngpaik (Director of Hongik Museum of Art, a judge of 2014 “Art Nova 100” Art Committee), “The Ode to Youth: China-Korea Youth Artists Exhibition” is held at the new Hongik Museum of Art from October 1 to October 29, 2014. The exhibition features 40 young artists as most representative of the two countries, with a total of 85 exhibiting works including paintings, installations, sculptures, videos, crafts, photography, etc.

Since diplomatic relations between China and South Korea was established in 1992, China and South Korea has had a very close economic and cultural cooperation and communication. It is the first time for “Art Nova 100” to be in cooperation with Hongik Museum of Art in South Korea, hoping that through the communication exhibition it may be possible to lay the foundation of cultural and artistic cooperation for the two sides. Especially in the field of visual art, based on an experimental spirit, Chinese and South Korean young artists gather together, through different forms to perform different properties in medium, on-site showcasing the audiences the wonderful communication and collision between the two countries. During the period of the exhibition some related academic lectures and activities will be held, to deeply analyze the present situation of contemporary art in China and South Korea, looking forward to the opportunity of the East Asian cultural and artistic development. Zhao Li and Chun Youngpaik, professors from the top art colleges of the two countries serve as the curators of the exhibition, exhibiting artists include 20 young Chinese artists who are active in “Art Nova 100”, while three South Korean artists Kim Jiyoung, Yeom Jihee, and Kwon Inkyung all participated in 2014 “Art Nova 100”. With the globalization of the current art market, the concept of “Asian Art”has had more and more attention throughout the world. This exhibition brings a new artistic experience for Chinese and South Korean contemporary art communication, as well as the development of young artists. It is a feast to youth art, The Ode to Youth!

About Hongik Museum of Art

Hongik Museum of Art was established in 1964, mainly collecting Asian modern and contemporary paintings, sculptures, calligraphy and other artworks. Now Hongik Museum of Art is composed of two parts, the first one is Wenxuan Pavilion, which is the exhibition hall for the graduation works of the Hongik University, showcasing the graduation works of the graduates and postgraduates as well as the works of research and teaching; A new pavilion was opened in 2009, where often themed exchange exhibitions are launched and invitational exhibitions, which aim to promote the development of contemporary art and to discover and promote young artists.
