With all the descriptive power of photographic imagery, Jacqueline Salmon leads an open reverie and reflective space - an invitation to dialogue about the "nature of things."
The Reason for Shadow and Clouds is a series of twenty black and white photographs that portray the views of the cryptoporticus of Arles, monumental foundations of the Roman Forum, and looming cloudy skies captured over the city from the loop of the Rhone…Presented in stark contrast to the previous exhibition are the Roots of the Vegetables, a series of twenty-seven color photographs of vegetables. Co-authored with Robert F. Hammerstiel, these tasty morsels are an ode to "Vegetable Roots Discourse", a collection of aphorisms and "talks" - the prominent work of Hong Zicheng, a Chinese scholar of the late-sixteenth and early-seventeenth centuries.
The clean big size Black and White photographs of Wu Jianwen often refer to the codes of traditional Chinese painting, done in a very personal way. The photographer spent seven years traveling through the high isolated plateaus of South West China in order to take pictures of black neck cranes.
