Cao Chunsheng was born in Shenyang, Liaoning Province in March of 1937. He is a Manchu originated from Beijing. He graduated from the affiliated school of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1957 and he was sent to study abroad at Repin Academy of Fine Arts, Leningrad of the former Soviet Union. In 1964 after he returned home, he taught at the School of Sculpture, the Central Academy of Fine Arts and he used to serve as the Dean of School of Sculpture, Committee Member of Academic Committee of the Central Academy of Fine Arts.
Cao’s work has been included in many national exhibitions and won numerous awards. He has attended academic exchanges in Europe, Japan, Middle East, Hong Kong and Macau. His representative work features figure painting, including Lenin, Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai as well as group sculpture “Inspiration - Grand Union of Nationalities”, “Wrath of Serfs” , etc. Besides, he took part in the planning, design, production of the sculptures including “Chairman Mao’s Memorial Hall”, “Monument of Anti-Japanese War for Chinese People”, “Monument of Eight Women Fighters Who Sacrifice Their Lives”.
