Planned by Beijing Fine Art Academy, “Selected Paintings and Calligraphy by Lu Yanshao Collection of Songshizhai” belongs to the “Chinese Masters in the 20th Century Series Exhibitions”, will be held at the Art Museum of Beijing Fine Art Academy, on April 16, until May 28, 2013 and jointly sponsored by the Chinese Artists Association, Beijing Artists Association, Beijing Fine Art Academy, Zhejiang Art Academy, and the Lu Yanshao Art Gallery, on view are more than 100 works of Chinese calligraphy and paintings by Lu Yanshao in the collection of Songshizhai. Through the research and classification of the works, the important review articles were combed through as well as parts of the artist’s reviews on art, making the exhibition more ornamental and academic. The period of the exhibition spans from the 1950s to the 1980s, while most of the works are in the form of hand-rolled and albums, and are not only of plentiful but also of full of quality.

His paintings development was based on the heritage of the tradition, using a more casual, straightforward, and varied brushstroke, in the 1970s, Lu changed to use negative space on the screen. Arranging branches of negative space to separate the mountain, the areas seem to be clouds, gas, mist or sunlight, floating in the mountains, mountains and blank areas are an alternative. In the 1980s, Lu Yanshao created his style “thick pen” in the landscape painting, and opened up a new realm of both fresh and bright colors and forceful unrestrained boldness.
