Recently completed paintings Pine Tree Sapling (Small), No. 4, Peach Sky and Rainbow Plant, 2020 and Pine Tree Sapling (Small), No. 5, Under Full Moo, 2020 are new works from my on-going series exploring the renewing power of fire within natural landscapes on our planet. I started this series in 2019 preparing new paintings for my second solo exhibition at Fou Gallery, Brooklyn, NY.

In these painted and raise gilded landscapes, green saplings sprout around burnt and destroyed tree trunks. I am very aware that fire has the power to utterly destroy as seen in the annual fires in California and Brazil’s devastating broad clearing of the rain forest. However, life seems to find a way to return. Fires, man made or naturally occurring, clear forest floors and grasslands leave behind carbon nutrients. Nutrients for surviving plant seeds, sprouting new life and thus maintaining the timelessness of the cycle of life.

In all of my work, I purposely lead viewers into vibrant and splendid Utopias of Nature—a sign and symbol of what we could lose as we continue to threaten our environment. My vividly depicted landscapes, containing leaves, flowers and fruits, are all suspended in a state where time lapses and an instant becomes eternal—levitating in every moment, for the viewer, is the past, present and future.
