Project Background

The B3 Biennial of the Moving Image was founded in 2013 by the Academy of Art and Design (HfG) Offenbach and the Hesse Film and Media Academy (HFMA), under the auspices of the state of Hesse.

The second edition of the B3 Biennial of the Moving Image will be hosted in autumn 2015 in Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region. The aim of the festival, which was launched in 2013, is to create a broad alliance for the moving image. As a result, the biennial takes an interdisciplinary and cross genre approach; it offers an international platform for interaction and networking between art, film, TV, and game producers, as well as directors, artists, designers, scientists, and players in the media industry.

For this edition, the organizers of the B3 Biennial of the Moving Image are partnering with the Central Academy of Fine Arts to hold “Moving in Time: B3 + BEIJING 2015 Moving Image Exhibition” at CAFA Art Museum from May 27 to June 22, 2015. The best works from this exhibition will travel to Germany in October to participate in the B3 Biennial of the Moving Image. “Moving in Time: B3 + BEIJING 2015 Moving Image Exhibition” stresses the moving image and multimedia work, represented through innovative communication channels, presentation methods, and curatorial concepts. The communication channels will be expanded to the internet, while the presentation methods will include offline portions in the main exhibition space, in addition to mobile and online sections. The exhibition will include technological elements, allowing for experimentation with technology-based art.

Keywords

Multimedia + Moving Image

Here, “moving image” does not simply refer to the presentation of a film; it proposes a new method for image creation, and mobile internet is the primary channel through which they are transmitted. The multiple interpretations of the moving image interact with the curatorial methods and exhibition events. Through a diverse array of extension activities, we will present these ideas beyond the screen. We hope to create an international moving image relay that will allow the creative process, rooted in online collaboration between creators from different nations, to represent physical movement.
