Poster of Li Qiang The Crumbs of God

Li Qiang is a rebel in the current cultural circle. As the internet and smart phone taking over the international media, every individual is living in a digital prospect built by the technology nowadays, where the pure reality has been murdered, in which subjects, meanings, truths and the real stuff have already disappeared and been taken place by the symbolic products and the surreal symbol logics. The Crumbs of God, one of the series of the subtraction of artists, will be displayed in the ENJOY Art Museum.

The Crumbs of God is made by more than 5,000 mainstream magazines and books, and the artist has torn up more than 3,000 kilogram paper scraps from it. The meaning of the work gradually comes out with the disappearance of the original pictures and articles in the books. Li Qiang sees it as an opposite method to against the media noises and as a refusal to the indulgence of the media flood.

Li Qiang said that what he wants is to use the subtraction against the addition, to use the rivalry against obedience, to use the silence against noise, to use the evidence against gossip, to use the simplicity against complexity, to use the closeness of the outline shape to against the spread of the images, to use the silence of meaning to against the autarchy of the meanings and the messages. Above all, he wants to refuse the automatically flooded images and information.

Li Qiang doesn’t like overmuch color. In contrary, he enjoys black and white. In his point of view, color is another kind of black and white. According to him, black and white is metaphysical and conveys meaning, it drives us into the secret of the objects, while color pulls us far away from the spiritual reality of the objects.

He thinks that his work is like a walking light, and he described that “Those views, those faces, those people, those truths of the words have been hidden into the darkness of knowledge, a light lighten them cruelly from outside and made them a bunch of weird creatures. Strange things are coming as the light getting closer and closer.” Li Qiang said that the word beautiful has become a pretty flooded and cheap concept, if someone has to define it, he thinks it is an exhibition of various objects.

Li Qiang’s work started from the material of the normal objects, yet he also surpassed it at the same time, and expressed his observation and discussion on the common problems. Inspired by his personal experience, Li Qiang could usually discover the genuine meaning and the spiritual distinguishment of a daily subject. In his work, people can find the co-existence of the concept and the romance.

The exhibition of the Crumbs of God awaits you, and you will see the mark of time.
