Then, he moved to Macao in 2011, and devoted himself to painting, making installations, curating and art education. He is obsessed with the gorgeous color, unique combination of eastern and western cultural custom as well as the profound history which has been for more than 400 years of Macao. Moreover, this small town is cast on hedonic appearance because of its diverse entertainment activities and unforgettable cuisines. Cai Guojie uses his brush to present a flowery paradise on Earth with light and bright watercolor as well as simple and clean lines.

Macao is not only famous for the "Las Vegas on the East", but also for her flourishing culture and history. The Eastern and Western culture in Macao has collided and mixed since the arrival of Portuguese with their culture and religious belief which goes back to 400 years ago. Instead of the disappearance of Chinese traditional culture and religion, these two distinct parties does not interfere each other but just seeks development for themselves. This is also the vital reason that western and eastern cultural heritages can be remained and preserved. Among the artworks of Cai Guojie, both Catholic sites and native religious beliefs can be found. As to the Catholic churches, Ruins of St. Paul's and St. Dominic's Church are very famous. About the Chinese temples, the representative ones are A-Ma Temple and Na-Tcha Temple. Also, Macao is a small town full of cultural atmosphere. There are numbers of libraries and gardens in modern or classic style. Some of the libraries are just located in the Lingnan style gardens. That is a unique feature of Macao that a visitor can appreciate books in a delicate garden. The diverse and flowery architectures in streets and alleys can reflect the harmonious coexistence history of Chinese and Portuguese. Macao is an inclusive city which is seeking common ground and appreciating differences. That is reason that Macao is more and more flourishing and turns to a unique choice for visitors.

This exhibition, Colors of Macau, is partly sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macau SAR Government and Macao Foundation. The exhibition is curated by James Chu and Kam Pang.
