The "Vollard Suite" is recognized as the peak of print series in the 20th century. It was produced by Pablo Ruiz Picasso from September 1930 to March 1937. This series included 97 works originally and finally totaled 100 after another three portrait prints of Ambroise Vollard were added in 1937.

This set of etchings are named after an art dealer, Ambroise Vollard, who was also Picasso's good friend. Despite the absence of close contact, they had known each other for a long time. Early in 1901, Picasso and another artist Francisco Iturrino held their first exhibition in Paris at the Vollard Gallery. By then, this French art dealer showed tremendous interest in this Spanish painter, and began to publish his works. Their cooperation reached a climax with "The Vollard Suite", which was more like a product of friendship and commercial communication rather than something entrusted between the dealer and the artist.
