The 6th “Design for Sitting Exhibition” Competition About to Unveil in CAFA

Hosted by CAFA, the 6th “Design for Sitting Exhibition” Competition and “60 Chairs” Invitational Exhibition of Internationally Renowned Designers’ Works is going to be unveiled in the CAFA Art Museum on January 10, 2014. It has been held for 12 years since the initial competition in the same name was held in 2002, and “Design for Sitting” series of competitions has now grown to be more mature while gaining success, recording that Chinese designers work hard and explore the “original”. Under the accumulation of more than a decade, the professional height and size of the competition has reached the highest level among similar competitions in China, while gaining a reputation throughout the world.

The theme of the competition is “Sitting & the Older Generation” Competition, “the older generation” refers to people who are older than us, our lives, life, and growth are inseparable with them, inspired by the coexistence with the elderly, participants can express their design ideas about “sitting” behavior and “chair” around their own living environment or growing process.

Tan Ping, Vice President of CAFA serves as the Chairman of the jury and other jury members include: Walkersville, Vice President of Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe, famous Japanese designer Masayuki Kurokawa, Professor Mitamura Arisumi from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, Professor Benjamin Hughes from the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, UK, Taiwan famous designer Jeff Dah-Yue Shi, Liu Guanzhong and Shi Zhenyu, Professors of the Academy of Art & Design, Tsinghua University, Zhu Xiaojie, President Chief Designer of Opal Furniture Design, Wu Xi, Chairman of Beijing Qingshang Architectural Design Institute, and professional artist Shao Fan.

“Design for Sitting Exhibition” is held every two years, while the Invitational Exhibition of Internationally Renowned Designers’ Works which is held in the same period is the light spot in recent competitions. The exhibition will also launch the “Living” Nameless Design Field Documents which is led by Prof. Jiang Li, aimed at searching for the native good designs which last for centuries.

In addition, cooperating with the 6th“Design for Sitting” exhibition, a related series of lectures are launched: the famous Japanese architect and product designer Masayuki Kurokawa gives a lecture entitled “Thinking Chair”, and Walkersville, Vice President of Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe gives a lecture entitled “Reforming! Upgrading!” at B114 in Building 7, CAFA at 2:30 pm on January 19; Mitamura Arisumi, Professor of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music will give a lecture “Passing Through Art Skill” at Red Chair Lecture Hall of CAFA at 9:00 am on January 13, 2014.
