Peng Yun is one of the most representive female experimental artists in Macau, and she is active in Macau and hinterland art circle, we can also find her works in some important exhibition of foreign country. She once studied in Oil Painting Department of Si Chuan Academy of Fine Arts for her bachelor degree, afterwards, she moved her interets from easal painting to experimental art. During her graduate education, she followed the famous professor of China Academy of Art, Zhang Peili, who is considered as the father of Chinese video art. In 2011, Peng Yun migrated to Macau. Within two years, with her female view and the identity of experimental artist, Peng Yun got to record the influence that this new city had on her. Perhaps, some people deem her works filled with ice-sexuality and gentle sweetness. All adjectives for female description can be found in her art works.
If the exhibiton named "She Says" which was held in AFA Macau two years ago is to express the female voice, "Fixation" is to show the power of silence. Moreover, it is a resist, just like what the curator Alice Kok said "It is at the same time tender and violent; sensitive but not weak, painful yet it denies sadness." In the works of Miss Lee Has Soft Fingers and Beautiful Eyes, Peng Yun films the process that a tomato which is considered as love apple in west culture is being crushed by a demure woman. In this video, woman resists the persecutor out of picture with a way of soft killing. People who know well about Peng Yun's works will notice the existence of many female elements. Paying close attention to woman inward world, it seems like the identity of man is absent in her works. However, taking a close look, Peng Yun's works is disccussing the relations between woman and woman, man and woman, woman and society. In the works of Miss Melissa and Mr Fish at 2:31pm, a beautiful hand reaches out to a set of still life, lily and fish. Generally, fish is a symbol of man, when flower is a signal of woman. In this scenario with indicative meaning, this hand flayed away the fish little by little.
About Peng Yun
Born in Sichuan Province of China in 1982, Peng Yun is a multi-media artist. her works have been exhibited in China and overseas since 2002. Peng graduated in the Sichuan fine arts institute with a bachelor degree in Oil Painting. And in 2007 she obtained a master degree in New Media Art at China Academy of Art. From year 2007 to 2009, she worked in Shanghai Institute of Visual Art, FuDan University, and taught the subject of "Digital Media Art and Design". Using a variety of media, her work concerns about the authenticity of individual life and the relation with the world. Peng Yun is currently living in Macau. She works in areas of visual arts, art education and fashion photography.
