“Print | Coincidence | Indefinite Forms – Tan Ping’s Prints from 1984 to 2012” is on display at Union Art in 798 Art Zone from November 9 to December 8, 2013, which combs through his works again and discusses his printmaking artistic creation after his solo exhibition “A LINE” which was held at National Art Museum of China in 2012. From his graduation the creation of etching “Miners” series during the period of study in the Printmaking Department, CAFA in 1984, to “Time”, the creations for his graduation during the period of study in the Free Art Department, Universitaet der Künste Berlin in 1994, to the 40-meter-long woodcut entitled “+40m” which was created in 2012, the exhibition focuses on many important works and creative moments in Tan Ping’s printmaking artistic career, leading the audience into the creative transformations and crucial nodes again and again.

As the title Print | Coincidence | Indefinite Forms states, on the one hand it is an intention to prompt spectators into three creative states and thinking directions in Tan Ping’s prints – pursuit of the “printed” texture of prints, discovery of the random and what “happens” in the process of printmaking creation, an expansion of the unknown creative experience in the creative concept of printmaking; on the other hand, it tries to connect the states and thinking that Tan Ping encountered during his printmaking creation, and throws it to the viewer, to inspire much more open possibilities, bringing more diverse thinking and experiences to the spectator.
