Achromatic Ripples - Dong Dawei’s Solo Exhibition opened at Space Station in Beijing on November 23, 2013, this is a development and continuation of the “Repetition and Multiplicity” exhibition, which was held last year, and it continues to December 20, 2013. The exhibition showcases the results of his latest study of the marker works series, that it is derivative from an ink dot to a system.

The new works of the exhibition continue to actively seek a limitation and commandment from the basic energy in creation. Through individual adaptation and modification of limitation, he finds a new technique. He doesn’t seek a means to realize it after imagination, but starts from the limitation of self-implementation, through an operation he finds and combs through the missed possibilities. Therefore, the so-called technique is actually the beginning of a technique, giving up the technique is a means to stimulate the imagination, bringing a wonderful perspective to see the same thing.

In the works in the marker series, it’s only one chance for a brush to touch the paper. His hand quietly and closely grasps the opportunity to spread an inked dot, removing the brush, the artist gazes at the inked dot continuing to spread, he doesn’t stop until it touches the previous dot. Holding his breath to finish from the first brushstroke to the last one, finally the outcome depends on the situation of with the paper back. Finally his works are perfect, and the unpredictable (defected) reality must be responsive and offer reconstruction, which are all under his consideration.
