This exhibition collectively shows the outcomes of the “Cape of Good Hope” project, jointly initiated and organized by Camberwell College of Arts, Chelsea College of Art & Design, and the Wimbledon College of Art of the University of the Arts London (CCW).
The project invited all walks of life into the cultural and artistic fields, such as artists, musicians, writers and so on, together with scientists, to reach and explore scientific expedition locations, such as the Arctic, where personal experiences of the interactive influences between global climate changes and the process of human habits were examined through the exchange of scientists, they built an interdisciplinary dialogue and created works to reflect the issues of global climate. Since the project started in 2003, it has organized seven expeditions, with more than 70 artists participating.
The exhibition features nearly 40 artworks by 25 artists, who participated in the Arctic highlands expeditions in 2007 and 2008, as well as an Andes expedition, which uses various forms including painting, photography, printmaking, installation, video, etc. These works show a new process of thought, in which artists are no longer watching as condescending bystanders, instead, on the basis of personal experience and understanding, they elucidate the multiple relationships between the changes of global climate and the material and spiritual worlds, from their eyes. The exhibition is also part of the exchange program of the CAFA and the University of the Arts London.
