“My Pursuit is to Record Time: Donated Works by Weng Naiqiang” is going to open at CAFA Art Museum, on May 31. Weng Naiqiang’s photographs, which are new to many people, truly recording the footprints of the time, full of the songs of war, triumph and elegies; truly reflecting the sunlight and shadow of people’s lives, as the title references, that his pursuit is to “Record Time”. He majored in oil painting, however, preferring to record life with the use of a camera; he participated in photojournalism of major historical events, recording history while history recorded him; he used the camera to face reality, to find the best harmony of art and realism as a photographer; he is an honest and gentle older person, and also a friend and mentor of the passionate youth.

Born in Jakarta in 1963, Indonesia, a native of Longyan of Fujian Province, Weng Naiqiang is a renowned photographer, painter, major member of the April Film Society. He returned to China and studied in Yuying Middle School in 1951, and studied in The High School Affiliated with CAFA in 1954, graduated from the Department of Oil Painting, CAFA in 1963. He was assigned to the Japanese Edition of “People China” magazine, served as an art photographer, a former editor of the magazine, director of the Department of Art and Photography, Director of the Journalist. He is a member of the Chinese Artists Association, member of the Chinese Photographers Association, Vice Chairman of China Overseas Chinese Photographic Society. Over the years, he has been mainly engaged in the introduction of Chinese art to the overseas. In 1990, he was appointed the professor of the Department of Printmaking.
