Hosted by the School of City Design, CAFA, and co-organized by the Art Display and Decoration Committee of China, “Art and Life Style: The Exhibition of Artists’ Sculpture Nominated by the Dean” was held at the Exhibition Hall of the ground floor of the China International Trade Center(CITC), Beijing. The most active contemporary artists participating in the exhibition include Sui Jianguo, Zhan Wan, Duan Haikang, Lin Xueming, Wang Zhong, Yu Fan, Xia Dewu, Wang Kaifang, Chen Wenling, Chen Zhiguang, Liu Wentao, Ma Juncheng, and Zhuo Fan. The exhibition mainly expressed the effects of artists and art, as well as the relation between art and lifestyle. CITC offered the ground floor of 2000 square meters to show more than 20 pieces of works, it is a large-scale exhibition with an attracting visual effect. Xia Dewu, from the Furnishing Art Studio of the School of City Design, CAFA, is the curator, and there are a large number of banners of 2 meter width x 7 meters length arranged around the space, reflecting the achievements in teaching and research of the School of City Design, CAFA, in the last ten years.

The exhibition aims to connect art and life together, the so-called pure art walks out of the “Ivory Tower”, and turns to be sensible and turns into life, a concert about life. There are some professional directions such as the relation of outdoor space art and life, the relation of interior furnishing art and life, as well as the relation of life and the inspiration of pure art creation from life. It is impossible to separate art and life, and the purpose of the exhibition is to help people to understand and enjoy the pleasure from culture and art, especially to produce a fine life with artistic approaches, which is an inescapable social responsibility of art education, art design and artists.

Prof. Xia Dewu, Curator of the exhibition, was interviewed on the spot, he said, the Art Display and Decoration Committee of China entrusted the School of City Design, CAFA, to host a contemporary artists’ sculpture exhibition, all the work including preparation, space arrangement, banners design, contacts and transportation, etc. completed together by teachers and students from the Furnishing Art Studio of the School of City Design, CAFA, with a great support from the school. At the same time, it is a good chance for students to understand the relation of design and art in practice.

In addition, CITC holds the Chinese International Interior Design Biennale and Furnishing Art Biennale at the same time, there are combinations of design and art, life and art, a visual feast for audiences. Xia Dewu said: “The practice of this comprehensive exhibition does well for our teachings, and this kind of comprehensive exhibition stands for a trend, a direction and a social phenomenon, a reflection of the professional.” He said: “Art and Life Style: The Exhibition of Artists’ Sculpture Nominated by the Dean” selected 13 active contemporary sculptors, along with two forums, one forum themed “Cross-Strait Furnishing Art” and another themed “Art and Life”, a grand meeting of art and design.
