02 120 Artists participated in The 2012 Art Nova 100 Program

The 2012 Art Nova 100 Program starts its program in Beijing on July 31 at Enjoy Museum of Art and SZ Art Center in 798 Art Zone and Arario gallery in the Brewery International Art Garden with a VIP preview and cocktail reception. The opening ceremony took place in Enjoy Museum of Art with a variety of forums and activities taking place in conjunction with the exhibition until the 6th August, the last day of the exhibition which is when the 120 young artists present more than 360 works for display at the event. Over the next year, the Art Nova 100 Organizing Committee will take these works to various cities on an extended exhibition tour that will cooperate with a range of art organizations. The 2012 Art Nova 100 program provides the young artists with a profound, high-level promotion and exhibition platform to further their development.

To make Art Nova 100’s selection process transparent and fair, the 2012 Art Nova 100 Selection Committee included a number of art world experts who understand the development process of young artists. These included Fang Lijun, Feng Boyi, Liu Libin, Victoria Lu, Sun Guosheng, Wu Qiuyan, Xiang Jing, Ye Yongqing, and Zhao Li. They looked closely at the works of over 1,000 young artists from across China and selected 110 outstanding young artists to participate in the 2012 program. The 2012 Art Nova 100 program involves artists born in 1975 or after. It is diverse in selecting artists who have come from various top universities and places from all across China. Artists work in a variety of media, including oil painting, sculpture, ink, printmaking, photography, and installation. It is a one of a kind and provides an amazing overview of tomorrow’s artists and opportunities for their professional development. The 2012 Art Nova 100 also invited critics, curators and artists from Korea to select another 10 young Korean artists to participate in the program, providing audiences with a glimpse of the latest art trends in Korea.

For its series of annual art exhibitions and promotion events, Art Nova 100 each year nominates about 100 artists from across China, as well as a small selection of international artists. The exhibition tour of these artists’ works takes place both in China and abroad. These exhibitions and their related events provide a large-scale promotion platform for the most promising young artists. The 2011 Art Nova 100 Program formally launched in Beijing in September. Since then, the exhibition has completed its tour of China, with notable exhibitions and events in many cities, including Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Wuxi. In addition, Art Nova 100 has had the privilege of collaborating with all kinds of people and organizations who support young artists, so as to make the program and its events even more successful. The 2011 Art Nova 100 exhibition series had the honor of winning L’Officiel Art’s “Annual Art Event Award”, and Artron.net’s “Annual Art Phenomenon Award”, and became a unique brand for promoting young artists.

Art Nova 100 continually explores exciting and innovative models to promote young artists. The 2012 program has taken an approach that we call “100+10+10”. “100” refers to our main part of the program which is 100 Chinese young artists. The first “10” which refers to 10 Chinese photography artists representing a specialization of the program, and the second “10” refers to 10 Korean young artists participating in the program representing an the international trend of the program. Building on Art Nova 100’s concept of “Rooted in China while integrated with Asia”, Art Nova 100 will continue to integrate more resources from across Asia for an integrated Asian young artists program, gradually expanding Art Nova 100 into a platform for young artists and their collectors from across Asia. As the program moves forward it will continually grow more internationally and take on new global objectives.
